formal request to the Hong Kong Bar Association (\u201c<strong>HKBA<\/strong>\u201d), the licencing and regulatory organisation for barristers in Hong Kong, to exempt practicing barristers from having to be formally briefed by solicitors when participating in our legal advice and access to justice programs, specifically: &#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"public-DraftStyleDefault-ul\">\n<li id=\"viewer-9bamm\" class=\"ljrnk _2eQSj _1BJwx _1iXso public-DraftStyleDefault-unorderedListItem\n   public-DraftStyleDefault-depth0\n   public-DraftStyleDefault-list-ltr public-DraftStyleDefault-reset _2QAo- _1iXso wj-V5 ljrnk\">\n<p class=\"_208Ie _2QAo- _1iXso wj-V5 ljrnk PDkkw\">Our community legal clinics, which have been operating since May 2017; and<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"viewer-dp4pq\" class=\"ljrnk _2eQSj _1BJwx _1iXso public-DraftStyleDefault-unorderedListItem\n   public-DraftStyleDefault-depth0\n   public-DraftStyleDefault-list-ltr _2QAo- _1iXso wj-V5 ljrnk\">\n<p class=\"_208Ie _2QAo- _1iXso wj-V5 ljrnk PDkkw\">Our legal literacy seminars for the community for the disadvantaged members living in Sham Shui Po and surrounding districts.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"viewer-1bd1s\" class=\"XzvDs _208Ie ljrnk blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2QAo- _1iXso wj-V5 ljrnk public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"vkIF2 public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr PDkkw\">PBHK is thrilled to announce that on 29 December 2020, the HKBA granted an exemption under the Bar Code to PBHK to officially approve PBHK as an authorized organization so that practicing barristers can directly participate in our programs to offer free legal advice to the poor, marginalized and disadvantaged members of our community who otherwise could not afford to pay for legal services.<a class=\"_2qJYG blog-link-hashtag-color _2xVcV _2E8wo\" href=\"https:\/\/t.sidekickopen70.com\/s3t\/c\/5\/f18dQhb0S7kv8bGcNcW1lhRpc59hl3kW7_k2842PyWM5VvLK0f7x3d_6Vt_rDm2bzNMkf80ZWMQ01?te=W3R5hFj4cm2zwW3_R5921Jz9RGW3P3n_M3Fbt5SW3_R5921LFsl4W1L0qVf1Gc7CCW1X1nwS1--vd9W24W6LB24VKg4w3v9CX64ll2&amp;si=5475037966630912&amp;pi=a8f5b2b5-5c30-4813-992f-ac6b9e91afe8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[1]<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h4>What This Means<\/h4>\n<p id=\"viewer-3d9fu\" class=\"XzvDs _208Ie ljrnk blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2QAo- _1iXso wj-V5 ljrnk public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"vkIF2 public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr PDkkw\">This approval allows PBHK to join the ranks of the Duty Lawyer Service Free Legal Advice Scheme, the Bar Free Legal Service Scheme <strong>as one of the few recognized schemes under the Bar Code as increasing access to justice in Hong Kong for those unable to afford the protection of the law <\/strong>due to financial means or due to other barriers<strong>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-4fv1b\" class=\"XzvDs _208Ie ljrnk blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2QAo- _1iXso wj-V5 ljrnk public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"vkIF2 public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr PDkkw\">It also marks an important milestone for PBHK as it <strong>frees up limited resources <\/strong>and enables practicing barristers to provide free legal advice to clients without the need to first be formally briefed and accompanied by solicitors.<a class=\"_2qJYG blog-link-hashtag-color _2xVcV _2E8wo\" href=\"https:\/\/t.sidekickopen70.com\/s3t\/c\/5\/f18dQhb0S7kv8bGcNcW1lhRpc59hl3kW7_k2842PyWM5VvLK0f7x3d_6Vt_rDm2bzNMkf80ZWMQ01?te=W3R5hFj4cm2zwW3_R5921Jz9RGW3P3n_M3Fbt5SW3_R5921LFsl4W1L0qVf1Gc7CCW1X1nwS1--vd9W24W6LB24VKg4w3v9CX64r42&amp;si=5475037966630912&amp;pi=a8f5b2b5-5c30-4813-992f-ac6b9e91afe8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[2]<\/a> This means that our volunteer solicitors and barristers can now independently advise individuals, whereas previously it required both a barrister and a public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"vkIF2 public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr PDkkw\">PBHK Founder, Davyd Wong, said \u201cWe are extremely delighted about the HKBA\u2019s granting of the exemption to us as it means we will now have more solicitor and barrister volunteer resources to service the overwhelming demand for legal assistance that currently
